Dune Buggy Dubai: The Short Answer

Drive a dune buggy across the golden dunes at our own DTCM-licensed desert camp, AED 800 for 30 minutes, for up to two riders.

  • How much does a dune buggy ride in Dubai cost?: With us, a dune buggy is AED 800 for 30 minutes, for up to two riders, including a helmet, a briefing and a guide.
  • How long does a dune buggy ride last?: Our standard ride is 30 minutes for AED 800, which is plenty of time to enjoy the dunes. If you would like a longer session, message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange it and confirm the price clearly.
  • What is included in the package?: Every ride includes the buggy, a safety helmet, a full briefing, and a guide who stays with you on the dunes.
  • Which is the best dune buggy tour in Dubai?: Judge buggy tours by three things: whether the price is shown in full, whether a helmet, briefing and guide are genuinely included, and whether you are booking the operator or a reseller.
  • What is the age limit for a dune buggy in Dubai?: There is no rigid public age limit for riding as a passenger, but for the driver we ask for an adult with basic confidence at the wheel.

How much is a dune buggy ride in Dubai?

A dune buggy ride in Dubai with us costs AED 800 for 30 minutes, for up to two riders, on the dunes at our DTCM-licensed desert camp near Al Awir. The buggy is a side-by-side vehicle with a steering wheel, seatbelts and a roll cage, and it is automatic, so no experience is needed. A helmet, a full briefing and a guide are included, which makes it ideal for first-timers and for sharing with a partner.

You can add the buggy to any desert safari, alongside dune bashing, a camel ride and a BBQ dinner, or simply come for a focused buggy session. The dunes at Al Awir are soft and beginner-friendly, and we also run rides on the taller red dunes of Lahbab on request. For longer sessions and current availability, message us on WhatsApp, there is no deposit, and you pay on the day.

Dune Buggy Dubai, Done Properly

A dune buggy, or side-by-side, is an off-road vehicle you drive sitting beside your passenger, with a steering wheel, pedals, seatbelts and a protective roll cage over your heads. On the open sand it is one of the most exciting and beginner-friendly ways to experience the Dubai desert, more protected than a quad and easy to handle because it is automatic.

With us you are booking the operator, not an agency. We run our own camp on the golden dunes near Al Awir, so the buggies, the guides and the dunes are ours, and the price you see is the price you pay. The rest of this page covers the price, where it happens, how a buggy compares to a quad bike, what to wear, the safety rules, and honest advice on who should think twice, the things the big booking sites never tell you. Whether you ride a buggy, a quad, or both, we will help you pick exactly what fits your group and your nerve.

The most popular way to enjoy the buggy is as part of a complete evening. You add the 30-minute buggy ride (AED 800, up to two riders) on top of a desert safari, so your day includes dune bashing in a 4×4, your buggy ride, a camel ride, sandboarding, a sunset stop, eight live shows and a BBQ buffet dinner. It is the full desert experience with the buggy thrill built in.

Dune Buggy vs Quad Bike: Which Should You Choose?

Dune buggy versus quad bike in Dubai, which to choose
Dune buggy versus quad bike in Dubai, which to choose

This is the question travellers ask most, and almost no operator answers it honestly. Both are brilliant; they just suit different people. A dune buggy is a seated side-by-side with a steering wheel, seatbelts and a roll cage, more protected, automatic, and easy to share with a partner who would rather not drive. A quad bike is an open machine you steer with handlebars, hands-on, exposed to the wind and the most affordable thrill.

Our priceAED 800 / 30 minAED 200 single / 300 double

Simple rule: if you want more protection, prefer to share with a partner or older child, or feel a little nervous, choose the buggy. If you want the cheapest, most hands-on thrill and you are happy to steer yourself, choose the quad. You can also do both. For full details on the quad option, see our quad biking Dubai page, or just message us with who is riding and we will recommend the right one.

Is It Easy to Drive a Dune Buggy?

Automatic dune buggy on the Dubai desert dunes, easy to drive
Automatic dune buggy on the Dubai desert dunes, easy to drive

Yes. This is the single biggest reason people choose a buggy over a quad. Our buggies are automatic, so there is no gear-changing or clutch, you simply steer, accelerate and brake, much like driving a car. After a short briefing, most first-timers feel comfortable within minutes.

Why it is easyWhat it means
Automatic transmissionNo gears or clutch; press to go, ease off to slow
Steering wheel and pedalsFamiliar, car-like controls
Seatbelts and roll cageYou are secured and protected throughout
Guided at your paceA guide leads; you go as gently as you like
Full briefing firstEverything is explained before you set off

If you have a driving licence you will feel instantly at home, but even non-drivers manage well because the controls are simple and a guide stays with you. Nervous riders, couples and families often find the buggy the most comfortable desert adventure of all.

Where Is Dune Buggy Riding in Dubai? Location and Map

Dune buggy Dubai location, golden dunes near Al Awir on the Dubai Hatta Road
Dune buggy Dubai location, golden dunes near Al Awir on the Dubai Hatta Road

Our dune buggy rides take place on the golden dunes of Al Awir, the closest true desert to central Dubai, around 35 to 45 minutes from most hotels. These soft, rolling dunes are ideal for buggies, gentle enough for beginners but with plenty of open space. The camp is our own, licensed by DTCM. Most buggy pages keep the exact spot vague, so here is the location on the map.

Open the camp location in Google Maps. Approximate drive times: Deira and Bur Dubai 30 to 40 minutes, Downtown and Business Bay 35 to 45, Dubai Marina and JBR 45 to 55, and Dubai Airport 35 to 45. With pickup arranged, you do not need to drive there yourself. For a full breakdown of routes and pickup zones, see our location and map guide.

Dune Buggy Riding on the Dubai-Hatta Road

Many people picture the famous dunes beside the Dubai-Hatta Road, and our Al Awir camp sits right along that corridor. The Dubai-Hatta Road (the E44) is the main route south-east out of the city toward Hatta, and the desert around Al Awir and Lahbab lies along it. So the dunes you have seen from that road are exactly the kind we ride, close to the city end rather than the long drive to Hatta town itself.

For taller, dramatic red dunes a little further along the same road, we also run rides at Lahbab, the famous Red Dunes. Lahbab buggy experiences are arranged on request, so message us on WhatsApp if you specifically want the red dunes.

Are Dune Buggies Safe? Age, Licence and Capacity

Dune buggy Dubai safety, roll cage, seatbelts and helmet
Dune buggy Dubai safety, roll cage, seatbelts and helmet

Dune buggies with us are safe and beginner-friendly. Unlike an open quad, a buggy has a roll cage and seatbelts, and you also wear a helmet. Every rider gets a clear safety briefing, a guide stays with the group, and the dunes at Al Awir are gentle with the pace set to you. The automatic controls mean there is very little to go wrong.

QuestionAnswer
Do I need a driving licence? No driving licence is required for guided buggy riding at the camp; a briefing is given first
Is it hard to drive? No. The buggy is automatic with car-like controls; most first-timers feel at ease within minutes
How many people fit?Our buggy seats up to 2; for a larger group we can arrange more than one, just ask
Can beginners do it?Yes. Beginners and nervous riders are exactly who the buggy suits
Is there a guide?Yes, a guide stays with the group the whole time
What safety gear is provided?A helmet for each rider, plus the buggy’s seatbelts and roll cage

For who can drive, an adult with basic confidence behind a wheel is ideal. Children can usually join as a passenger beside an adult driver rather than driving alone, so tell us their age in advance and we will set up the safe option. If anyone has a health concern, let us know and we will advise.

Who Should Think Twice About a Dune Buggy

Desert camp activities to enjoy if a dune buggy is not right for you in Dubai
Desert camp activities to enjoy if a dune buggy is not right for you in Dubai

No big booking site will tell you this, but we would rather you have the right experience. A buggy suits most people, including many who would find a quad too exposed, but a few should plan carefully or enjoy the camp instead.

If you…Our honest advice
Are pregnantWe do not recommend riding; enjoy the camp, dinner and shows instead
Have back, neck or joint issuesDriving over dunes can jolt even with a roll cage; tell us first or skip it
Get strong motion sicknessThe dips and turns can trigger it; keep the ride short and gentle, or skip
Are a young childRide as a passenger beside an adult, never driving alone; tell us the age
Have a heart condition or recent surgeryPlease consult your doctor; let us know so we can advise
Want extreme high-speed racingOur focus is safe, guided fun on gentle dunes, not racing

Most concerns are easily solved by telling us in advance or keeping the ride gentle. A quick WhatsApp message before you book is all it takes, and we will be honest with you about the best option, including whether a quad, a buggy or simply the camp suits you best.

What to Wear, Bring and Leave Behind

What to wear and bring for a dune buggy ride in the Dubai desert
What to wear and bring for a dune buggy ride in the Dubai desert

Dress for sand and sun. Closed shoes are best, with light, breathable clothes you do not mind getting dusty. Sunglasses keep the sand out of your eyes, and sunscreen is essential by day. For evening rides bring a light layer, as the desert cools quickly after sunset, especially from November to March.

We provideYou bring
Safety helmetClosed shoes (not sandals)
The buggy, seatbelts, roll cageSunglasses and sunscreen
Guide and full briefingLight, dust-friendly clothing
Washrooms and seating at the campA layer for the cooler evening

Best left behind or secured: loose items can be lost on the dunes, so keep phones, sunglasses and anything in your pockets secure, and stop the buggy before taking photos. Open sandals, flip-flops and anything that blows away are best avoided. For a complete seasonal outfit guide, see our what to wear guide.

Best Time and Timings for a Dune Buggy Ride

Best time for a dune buggy ride, sunset over the Dubai desert dunes
Best time for a dune buggy ride, sunset over the Dubai desert dunes

Buggy rides run year-round, but the coolest, most comfortable slots are early morning and late afternoon to sunset. From October to April the desert is pleasant for much of the day; in the hotter months (roughly May to September) ride early or near sunset to avoid the midday heat. Sunset is the most popular slot, because it pairs naturally with a full safari evening, and night rides are also possible on request.

SlotWhy choose it
MorningCool air, soft light, quieter dunes
Late afternoon / sunsetMost popular; pairs with sunset and the safari evening
Night ride (on request)A cooler, atmospheric ride after dark
Hotter months (May-Sep)Ride early morning or near sunset to beat the heat

If you are combining the buggy with a desert safari, your timing follows the safari pickup, which shifts a little with the season so you reach the dunes for sunset. See exact pickup times by month in our timings guide. Tell us your preferred slot on WhatsApp and we will confirm availability.

What to Check Before Booking a Dune Buggy Anywhere

If you are comparing buggy options in Dubai, a few quick checks save you money and hassle. First, is the price shown in full, or a fuzzy range behind an enquiry? Second, are a helmet, briefing and guide actually included, or charged as extras at the dunes? Third, are you booking the operator or a reseller adding commission? Fourth, can they tell you exactly where you will ride and what suits your group and children? And fifth, is there a deposit, or do you pay on the day? A confident, real operator answers all five plainly, which is exactly what this page does, before you even ask.

Dune Buggy Dubai: FAQs

How much does a dune buggy ride in Dubai cost?

With us, a dune buggy is AED 800 for 30 minutes, for up to two riders, including a helmet, a briefing and a guide. You can add it to any desert safari or ride on its own. For longer sessions and current availability, message us on WhatsApp; there is no deposit and you pay on the day.

Dune buggy vs quad bike, which should I choose?

Choose a buggy if you want more protection (roll cage and seatbelts), prefer to share with a partner or older child, or feel nervous, it is automatic and car-like (AED 800 for 30 minutes, up to two). Choose a quad if you want the cheapest, most hands-on thrill and are happy to steer yourself (AED 200 single, AED 300 double). You can also do both; see our quad biking page or message us.

Can I self-drive a dune buggy in Dubai?

Yes, you drive the buggy yourself, that is the fun of it, with a guide leading the group across the dunes so you are never alone. No prior off-road experience is needed because the buggy is automatic and the controls are car-like. A full briefing is given before you set off.

Which is the best dune buggy tour in Dubai?

Judge buggy tours by three things: whether the price is shown in full, whether a helmet, briefing and guide are genuinely included, and whether you are booking the operator or a reseller. We are the operator, we run our own camp and buggies, we show the price plainly, and we have hosted more than 5,000 guests. We would rather earn your trust than just call ourselves the best.

Can I rent a dune buggy or book on the spot?

We recommend booking ahead on WhatsApp so we can reserve your buggy and time, especially at weekends and in the cooler months when the desert is busy. Walk-up availability can be limited, so a quick message before you travel is the safest way to secure your ride.

What is the age limit for a dune buggy in Dubai?

There is no rigid public age limit for riding as a passenger, but for the driver we ask for an adult with basic confidence at the wheel. Younger children usually ride as a passenger beside an adult rather than driving alone. Tell us everyone’s ages on WhatsApp and we will set up the safe option.

Do I need a driving licence for a dune buggy?

No. For guided buggy riding at the camp, no driving licence is required, the buggy is automatic and a full briefing is given first. If you do hold a licence you will feel instantly at home, but non-drivers manage well too.

Do I need to bring a valid ID?

It is sensible to carry a form of photo ID with you when visiting the desert camp. Tell us at booking who is riding, and we will let you know if anything specific is needed for your group.

How many people can a dune buggy hold?

Our buggy seats up to two people, a driver and a passenger side by side. If you are a larger group, we can arrange more than one buggy so everyone rides; just tell us your numbers on WhatsApp.

What is the top speed of the buggy?

The buggies are powerful, but all our rides are guided and run at a controlled, comfortable pace set to you, not a race. Rather than chasing a top speed, the experience is about enjoying the dunes safely. You can always ask your guide to keep it gentle.

Is it easy to drive a dune buggy, and is it automatic?

Yes and yes. Our buggies are automatic, so there is no clutch or gear-changing, you simply steer, accelerate and brake like a car. After a short briefing most first-timers feel comfortable within minutes, which is why nervous riders often prefer a buggy to a quad.

Are dune buggies safe, and what safety gear is provided?

Yes. The buggy has a roll cage and seatbelts, you wear a helmet, a guide stays with the group, and the dunes are gentle with the pace set to you. Every rider gets a full safety briefing before setting off. Follow the briefing and it is a safe, beginner-friendly adventure.

Who should not do a dune buggy ride?

We honestly recommend against riding if you are pregnant, and you should take care or skip it if you have back, neck or joint issues, strong motion sickness, a heart condition, or recent surgery. Very young children should ride as passengers, never driving alone. Tell us your situation and we will advise the safest option.

Can children ride in a dune buggy?

Yes, children can usually join as a passenger beside an adult driver rather than driving themselves. For safety we ask their age in advance so we can recommend the right setup, or whether the camp experience suits them better. Just tell us on WhatsApp.

What should I wear and bring for a dune buggy ride?

Wear closed shoes (not sandals), light clothes you do not mind getting dusty, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring a light layer for the cooler evening, especially from November to March, and keep loose items secure as they can be lost on the dunes. Helmet, guide and washrooms are provided.

What is included in the package?

Every ride includes the buggy, a safety helmet, a full briefing, and a guide who stays with you on the dunes. Hotel pickup, professional photos and combining the buggy with a full desert safari are all available as optional extras; just ask when you book.

Is hotel pickup and drop-off available?

Yes. We can arrange hotel or home pickup and drop-off across Dubai, especially when you combine the buggy with a desert safari. Tell us your hotel or area on WhatsApp and we will sort out the transfer.

What is the best time of day for a dune buggy ride?

The coolest, most comfortable slots are early morning and late afternoon to sunset. Sunset is the most popular as it pairs with a full safari evening, and night rides are possible on request. In the hotter months ride early or near sunset to avoid the midday heat.

How long does a dune buggy ride last?

Our standard ride is 30 minutes for AED 800, which is plenty of time to enjoy the dunes. If you would like a longer session, message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange it and confirm the price clearly.

What is dune bashing, and is it worth it?

Dune bashing is riding up, down and across the sand dunes, a desert rollercoaster. In a buggy you do it yourself behind the wheel, protected by the roll cage and seatbelts; in our 4×4 safari a trained driver does it for you. It is one of the most loved parts of any desert trip, and well worth it, especially at sunset.

If we have to cancel, what happens?

A cancellation policy that covers your obligations but not ours is only half a document. Here is our side of it, in writing.

If we have to cancel your booking — for weather, a vehicle issue, or driver illness — we will contact you as soon as we know and rebook you at no charge on the next date that works for you. You pay nothing for the cancelled booking.

If we need to send a different vehicle than the one you booked, we will ask you first rather than turning up in something you did not book.

This is separate from your own cancellation rights, which are unchanged: you can cancel free up to 12 hours before pickup. Because we take no deposit and no booking fee, there is no money of yours sitting with us either way — nothing to chase, and nothing to wait for.
