3:30–4:15 PM — Pickup and desert transfer

Your driver-guide collects you from your Abu Dhabi hotel, home or an agreed mall meeting point in an air-conditioned 4×4 Land Cruiser. As the city thins out into open sand along the Al Ain road, the mood shifts. Within about 45 minutes the tarmac gives way to the soft, apricot dunes of Al Khatim.

4:15–5:15 PM — Dune bashing and tyre-deflation stop

At the edge of the dunes your guide lowers the tyre pressure for grip, then leads a thrilling dune-bashing session — rolling, carving and cresting the ridges in a controlled, adrenaline-filled ride. Nervous guests can ask for a gentler drive; thrill-seekers can ask for more. It is the single most photographed part of the whole trip.

5:15–6:15 PM — Sunset, sandboarding and camel ride

Stargazing From Your Tent: the Practical Guide No Tour Page Publishes

Al Khatim sits far enough from both cities that on a clear, moonless night you can see the Milky Way core with the naked eye between roughly April and September. Whether your night delivers depends on two things nobody selling “stargazing” mentions: the moon, and the dust.

Check the moon before you pick your date

A full moon is beautiful over the dunes but erases all but the brightest stars. For serious stargazing in the Abu Dhabi desert, book within four or five nights of a new moon. For dune photography, do the opposite — a bright moon lights the sand silver. Decide which night you are buying before you choose the date; it costs nothing and changes everything.

What you will actually see

• All year: Orion (winter), Scorpius low on the horizon (summer), planets whenever they are up — Venus and Jupiter are unmistakable.

Who Should NOT Book an Overnight Safari

The overnight is our most memorable tour and the wrong choice for some guests. In honesty:

• If you have a morning flight, do not book it. You are back 8:00–9:30 AM at the earliest; an 11 AM departure from AUH is too tight once traffic and check-in are counted. Take the evening safari instead and sleep in your hotel.
• Infants under two struggle: the night is long, the temperature swings, and other guests are sleeping metres away. The evening tour gives the family everything except the tent.
• Light sleepers who need silence AND walls: a tent is quiet but it is still a tent. If eight hours of hotel-grade sleep matters more than sunrise, choose the evening tour honestly.
• Anyone unwilling to be offline: signal at the camp is weak to none. For most guests that is the feature. If it is your dealbreaker, now you know.
• Wheelchair users: the camp itself can be arranged, but soft-sand paths to the tents and washrooms are genuinely difficult after dark. Message us first and we will tell you exactly what is and is not workable rather than sell you a bad night.
