Send Your Two Flight Numbers

Inbound and outbound. We calculate the usable hours after immigration, bags and the walk back through security, then tell you which plan fits — or that none does. No deposit, and no charge for the advice.

How it works — five steps

Driver loading luggage into a Land Cruiser boot at Dubai airport pickup
Bags go in the boot at arrivals and stay locked in the car with the driver. We do not charge for luggage.
    1. Send both flight numbers on WhatsApp. Inbound and outbound. Nothing else is needed to start — no form, no card, no account.
    2. We calculate your usable hours. We subtract three to four hours from the connection for immigration, bag reclaim if it applies, security on the way back and a buffer we never spend. You get a number, not a sales pitch.
    3. We confirm the plan, the vehicle and the price. In AED, with a USD and CAD estimate so you know roughly what your card will see. Nothing is added later.
    4. We meet you inside arrivals. Name board, at the meeting point for your terminal. Your driver's name and the plate number reach you before you fly.
    5. You tour, and you get back before boarding. The route is built backwards from your boarding call, with an hour built in that you never spend.

    The Short Answer

    • Yes, you can leave DXB on a layover if your passport allows entry to the UAE. Your onward boarding pass does not keep you inside the terminal.
    • Subtract 3 to 4 hours from your connection before planning — aircraft door, immigration, bags if they appear, security on the way back, and a buffer you never spend.
    • Under 7 hours: stay airside. 7–9 hours buys a real 4-hour run. 9–11 buys 6. Over 11, a proper day.
    • Private, per car, from AED 899 for up to seven guests — luggage rides with you, so no storage counter and no suitcase in a shopping mall.
    • We will tell you to stay in the terminal when that is the right answer. Losing a booking beats you losing a flight.

How many hours you can actually spend

This is the calculation almost nobody does before booking a layover tour, and it is why people end up sprinting through Terminal 3.

Connection on your ticketUsable city timeWhat we recommend
Under 6 hoursEffectively noneStay airside. Lounge or quiet zone.
7 hoursabout 3–44-hour plan — Downtown only, no detours.
9 hoursabout 5–66-hour plan — old Dubai plus the modern strip.
11–12 hoursabout 88-hour plan — abra, souks on foot, a real meal.
Overnight, 14 hours+10–1212-hour overnight plan, or transfer and sleep.

Two things make Dubai unusually good for this: Downtown is roughly fifteen minutes from the airport in normal traffic, and the roads are fast outside peak. A seven-hour connection here is worth more than a seven-hour connection almost anywhere else.

What you actually see, hour by hour

4 hours — the Downtown run

Museum of the Future on the way in, then Downtown: Burj Khalifa from the lake side where the photograph works, twenty minutes inside Dubai Mall if you want them, and the Fountain if the show times line up. Back at the terminal with an hour spare. It is not a tour of Dubai; it is the part everybody came to see.

6 hours — old and new

Al Fahidi and the creek first while it is cooler, the Gold and Spice Souks on foot, across to Jumeirah Mosque and Burj Al Arab from the beach, past Palm Jumeirah, Downtown at the end. We book this one most, because it is the shortest run that shows two different Dubais instead of one.

8 hours — the proper day

Everything above, unhurried, plus an abra across the creek for a dirham, time inside the souks rather than past them, Marina and JBR, and a sit-down lunch instead of a snack in the car.

    Overnight — the 12-hour plan

Night is the underrated version. The Fountain, Downtown lit, Palm and Atlantis, Marina Walk and JBR — cooler air, lighter traffic, a rest stop if you want one, and sunrise before we drive back.

Guest browsing lantern stalls in an old Dubai souk during a layover tour
The souks are the part people did not expect and remember most — and they only fit from six hours upwards.

Private car or a shared layover tour?

Most cheap layover tours are shared coaches. They work, and they cost less per head. On a layover they also carry a risk that does not exist on a normal holiday.

    What happens to your luggage

On most connections your checked bags are tagged through to your final destination and never appear in Dubai. If they do come out, or you are hand-luggage only, everything stays in the vehicle with you. No storage counter, no locker queue, no wheeling a case through Dubai Mall. Dubai Airports also runs left-baggage facilities in the terminals if you would rather leave things behind entirely.

    Where we meet you

Your driver stands inside the arrivals hall with a board carrying your name, at the meeting point for your terminal — Terminal 3 for Emirates and flydubai long-haul, Terminal 1 for most other international arrivals, Terminal 2 on the far side of the field. Send the flight number and we work the terminal out.

Chauffeur holding a printed name board at the Dubai Airport arrivals meeting point
No searching and no phone calls in the arrivals crowd — you walk out and your name is there.

When you should not leave the airport

Stay inside if your connection is under six or seven hours; if you are alone with small children and heavy bags; if it is 2am, you have a fourteen-hour flight ahead and you genuinely need sleep; or if your onward flight is the only one that day. DXB has sleep lounges and quiet zones and there is no shame in using them. Send the flight numbers anyway — if the answer is stay in the terminal, we will say so, and it costs nothing to find out.

Six things that ruin a layover tour

    1. Planning from the ticket time. The connection is not the tour length. Subtract three to four hours.
    2. Booking a shared coach with a tight gap. It leaves on its schedule, not yours.
    3. Paying for luggage storage. Unnecessary when the bags simply ride with you.
    4. Not sending the flight number. Without it nobody is tracking your delay.
    5. Trying to fit Abu Dhabi in. Ninety minutes each way — it needs a very long gap.
    6. Cutting the return fine. We build in an hour you never spend. That hour is the product.

Dubai layover tour, transit tour, stopover tour: which words mean what

Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa glowing at golden hour
Three phrases, one car and one driver. The only thing that changes is how many hours we are working with.

Three phrases get used for the same car and the same driver, and the difference only matters because it tells us how many hours we have.

If you are still not sure which one you are, send both flight numbers. Working it out takes us about a minute and it decides everything else — the plan, the price and whether you should be leaving the airport at all.

If you are not leaving: what DXB actually has

Roughly half the people searching for a layover tour end up staying inside, and that is often the right call. Here is what is genuinely there, from Dubai Airports’ own facilities list, so you can decide before you land rather than wander.

What is included, and what is not

    Included in every plan

    • Private vehicle for your party only, up to 7 guests
    • English-speaking driver and guide
    • Meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board
    • Airport pickup and drop, both directions
    • Fuel, Salik tolls, parking and all waiting time
    • Flight tracking — the pickup moves if you are late
    • Luggage carried in the vehicle for the whole tour
    • Child seats on request, no charge
    • Bottled water in the car

    Not included

    • Attraction tickets — Burj Khalifa, Frame, Museum of the Future
    • Meals and drinks outside the car
    • Your UAE entry visa, where your passport needs one
    • Anything you buy in the souks, which is on you
    • Airport left-baggage, if you choose to use it

Tickets can be arranged if you ask in advance, but on a layover we usually advise against them — queues are the one thing we cannot drive around.

The 6-hour run, hour by hour

So you can see exactly where the time goes, rather than trusting the word “highlights”.

    ElapsedWhere you areWhat happens
0:00Arrivals hallDriver meets you at the board, bags into the car.
0:20Dubai Creek & Al FahidiWind towers, the old quarter, and the creek before the heat.

4:20Downtown & Burj KhalifaFountain if the show time lands, Dubai Mall if you want it.
5:20Back at the terminalWith the buffer hour still unspent. That is the design.

The 4-hour plan is this route with the souks and Palm removed. The 8-hour plan is this route with the walking sections doubled and a real lunch added.

Heat, prayer times and Ramadan — what changes

Summer. From roughly June to September, midday outside is brutal. We invert the route: indoor and coastal stops in the middle of the day, walking at the start and end, and the air conditioning stays on at every stop. If your gap falls between 12:00 and 16:00 in August, expect a shorter walking component and more driving — that is us protecting you, not cutting corners.

Fridays. Friday prayers pause parts of the day around midday, and the souks are quieter in the morning. It is still a good day to tour; the route just shifts.

Ramadan. Eating and drinking in public during daylight is limited, many restaurants close until sunset, and traffic surges just before iftar. Tours still run, and the city is beautiful at night in that month, but we will plan around the timings and tell you honestly what will be shut.

What it costs if you organise it yourself

Worth doing the maths honestly, because for some people the answer is that they should.

    Doing it yourselfReality
Taxis between stopsAirport taxis start on the RTA airport tariff of AED 20–25, then run on distance, waiting and tolls. Four or five separate rides across a day mount up, and none of them wait for you.
MetroCheap and clean, but it does not reach Palm Jumeirah or Burj Al Arab, and with luggage in July it is not a plan.
Luggage storageA real cost and a real queue, twice, at the airport — unless the bags stay in a car.
The riskNobody is tracking your flight or watching the clock but you, after a long-haul sector.

If you are two people, hand luggage only, arriving mid-morning with nine hours: do it yourself and save the money. Any more people, any bags, any night arrival, any children — the car pays for itself the moment something does not go to plan.

What these runs actually look like

Four connection shapes we drive most often, and what happens to the clock in each. These are the plans, not testimonials — the timings are what we build to.

The connectionParty & bagsWhat we runBack at the terminal
    7h 20m, lands 09:402 adults, cabin bags only4-hour Downtown run3h 15m before departure
    9h 45m, lands 07:10Family of 4, two checked bags out6-hour old-and-new run, bags in the car3h 30m before departure
    12h, lands 13:053 adults8-hour run with abra, souks on foot and a sit-down lunch3h 45m before departure
14h overnight, lands 22:15Couple, one case12-hour night plan, rest stop, sunrise before return3h before departure

The pattern is deliberate: every plan puts you back at the terminal roughly three hours before departure, whatever the gap. That margin is the product. We shorten the route before we shorten the margin.

Visa and entry — the honest version

You can leave DXB on a layover if your passport allows entry to the UAE. Your onward boarding pass does not oblige you to stay airside — you clear immigration like any other arriving passenger.

Entry rules differ by nationality and they change. We are a transport company, not an immigration adviser, so we will not tell you what your passport gets. Check your own position with your airline or the official UAE channels before you plan anything, and do it early enough to fix a surprise.

If you are travelling on Emirates and your connection qualifies for Dubai Connect, Emirates includes a complimentary 48-hour visa in that booking, arranged at least 48 hours before arrival where your nationality needs one, or on arrival subject to UAE immigration approval. Staying a day or more, not just connecting?

This page is for a layover: bags checked through, the flight is the whole constraint, and you are back at the terminal in hours. If you are breaking the journey for 24, 48 or 72 hours with a hotel and your bags with you, read the Dubai stopover tour page instead. It carries the hour-by-hour planner, the desert and Hatta options, and per-car prices from AED 599.

    Carrying bags on your layover?

If your luggage is not checked through, the airport counters charge AED 35 to 50 per bag per twelve hours and each terminal is priced differently. The official table, the size rule and the free alternatives are on the Dubai airport luggage storage page.

Where your driver meets you, terminal by terminal

Driver holding a guest name board at Dubai airport arrivals meeting point
The name board goes up before you reach the doors. Your driver name and number are sent the night before.

The worst ninety seconds of a layover tour are the ones after you clear customs and cannot see anybody holding your name. Here is exactly where we stand in each terminal, and the landmark to walk towards.

TerminalWho lands hereWhere we waitWalk from the belt
Terminal 3Emirates and its partnersArrivals hall, in the meeting area just past customs, name board held upThe longest of the three. Allow for the internal train between concourses
Terminal 1Most other international carriersArrivals hall, directly outside the customs doorsShort. The exit leads straight to the pickup area
Terminal 2Regional and low-cost carriersArrivals hall beside the exit doorsShort, but the terminal sits on the opposite side of the airfield

Your driver name and phone number are sent to you the night before, and the car is tracked to your flight. If you land late the pickup moves with you, and there is no waiting charge for a delay that is not your fault.

How you pay, and what we never ask for

No deposit holds the car. You pay the driver on the day, in whatever currency suits you.

No deposit is taken to reserve. You pay on the day, and you pay the driver.

We never ask for card details over WhatsApp, we never take a deposit to hold a car, and the number quoted before you land is the number you pay. If anybody contacts you claiming otherwise, it is not us.

If your flight is late, or the connection collapses

Curved illuminated architecture of the Dubai airport terminal at night
We plan the return, not the departure. If the maths stops working, we shorten the plan or stand it down.

This is the fear that stops people booking, so here is the whole policy in plain English.

What happensWhat we doWhat it costs you
Your inbound flight is delayedWe track it. The driver moves to the new landing time.Nothing
The delay eats the tourWe shorten the plan, or cancel it and tell you to stay airside.Nothing. You pay on the day, so there is nothing to refund
Your onward flight is brought forwardMessage us. We cut the route and get you back early. The shorter plan price, not the one you booked
You cancel more than 12 hours outCancelled, no questions askedNothing
You cancel inside 12 hoursWe will normally move it rather than charge youUsually nothing
Sandstorm, road closure or vehicle faultWe tell you immediately and stand the plan downNothing

The reason we can write a policy this simple is that we take no money up front. There is no deposit to argue about, which removes most of what goes wrong between a traveller and a tour operator.

    Children, car seats and accessibility

Families swimming at JBR Beach with Ain Dubai wheel behind
The price is per vehicle. A family of four pays what a couple pays, and the car seats cost nothing.

Children. Infants and children travel at no extra charge, because the price is per vehicle rather than per head — a family of four pays what a couple pays. Child seats and boosters are provided free on request; tell us the ages when you book so the right seat is fitted before the car leaves.

Wheelchair users. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available on notice, and folding wheelchairs travel in the boot of every car. Tell us before you book rather than at the kerb so the right vehicle is assigned to you.

Mobility and walking. Every plan on this page can be run as a photo-stop route with almost no walking. The souk and creek sections involve uneven ground and steps at the abra dock; say the word and we route around them.

Prayer times and dietary needs. Drivers will stop at a mosque on request. Halal is the default everywhere we take you; vegetarian, vegan and allergy requirements should be mentioned at booking so the restaurant stop is chosen accordingly.

Not sure how many hours you actually have?

This page sells the tour. If you are still working out whether your connection is even long enough — and what fits in four, six, eight, twelve or twenty-four hours — start with the Dubai layover guide. It carries the arithmetic, the official nol and taxi fares, the entry rules and the luggage prices, all sourced and dated.

    Nice tour with Ikram

“We visited iconic landmarks like Burj Khalifa, the Al Fahidi Historical District, the Gold Souk, and the Spice Souk. At every stop, Ikram shared interesting stories that brought each place to life. Is this the right page for you?

This page is for one job: you have a gap between two flights at DXB and you want to spend it in the city, safely, and be back before boarding.

    Dubai Layover Questions

The questions Google shows for Dubai layovers, answered by the people who drive these runs every week.

    Can I tour Dubai during a layover?+

Yes, provided your passport allows entry to the UAE and your connection is long enough. Your onward boarding pass does not oblige you to stay airside. As a working rule you need about seven hours on the ticket before a tour makes sense, because three to four of those disappear into immigration, bags and getting back through security.

Can I leave Dubai Airport during a layover?+

Yes. You clear immigration like any other arriving passenger and walk out. What decides it is entry permission for your nationality, not your ticket. Check the current rules for your own passport with your airline or the UAE authorities before you plan — they differ by nationality and we will not summarise them for you.

How can I spend 8 hours at Dubai Airport?+

You do not have to. Eight hours on the ticket is roughly five usable hours outside, enough for old Dubai and the creek, the souks, Burj Al Arab and Downtown — our 6-hour plan at AED 999 per car. If you would rather stay, DXB has sleep lounges, quiet zones, showers and a great deal of food and shopping.

Can I sleep in Dubai Airport during a layover?+

Yes. DXB has paid sleep lounges and quiet rest areas across the terminals, and plenty of people simply find a bench. Whether that beats leaving is a question of hours and energy: with a six-hour gap at 3am, sleep wins. With a ten-hour gap in daylight, it does not.

How long does a layover need to be to leave Dubai Airport?+

Seven hours is our practical minimum for a tour, and nine is comfortable. Below that, once you subtract immigration, any bag collection, the drive both ways and a safety buffer, there is not enough city time left to justify the risk.

How much is a Dubai layover tour?+

Priced per vehicle, not per person: AED 699 for four hours, AED 799 for six, AED 999 for eight and AED 1,299 for a twelve-hour overnight plan, in a sedan or SUV for up to seven guests. A Land Cruiser is AED 999, 1,099, 1,399 and 1,699 for the same durations. Airport pickup and drop, fuel, Salik tolls, parking and waiting time are included.

Is a private layover tour better than a shared one?+

For two people with no bags and a generous connection, a shared coach is cheaper and perfectly sensible. For three or more, or with luggage, children or any chance of a delay, a private car wins: it leaves when you clear immigration rather than on a timetable, your bags ride with you, and the route is built around your boarding call.

What if my inbound flight is delayed?+

We track it. The pickup moves with the aircraft and there is no charge for the delay. If the delay eats the gap entirely we cancel and you pay nothing — that is the point of pre-booking rather than negotiating at the rank.

Do I need a visa to leave the airport in Dubai?+

That depends on your nationality. Some passports get entry on arrival, some need a visa arranged in advance, and if you are on Emirates’ Dubai Connect service a complimentary 48-hour visa is included in that booking. Confirm your own position with your airline or the UAE authorities early enough to fix a surprise.

Can you keep my bags during the tour?+

They stay in the vehicle with you, which is simpler and free. No storage fee, no locker to find. If you would rather leave them at the airport, Dubai Airports runs left-baggage facilities in the terminals.

    Can I do a desert safari on a layover?+

Yes, if the gap lands in the afternoon and you have roughly eight hours or more on the ticket. We collect you at arrivals, drive to the dunes for a sunset run, camel photo stop and a barbecue camp, then return you to the terminal. AED 799 per car in a sedan or SUV, AED 999 in a Land Cruiser.

Can I visit Abu Dhabi on a Dubai layover?+

Only on a very long one. Abu Dhabi is about ninety minutes each way, so you need close to twelve hours on the ticket before it is sensible. On a normal six to eight-hour connection it is not, and we will say so rather than sell it.

Is the price per person or per car?+

Per car. AED 999 covers the whole vehicle for up to seven guests on the six-hour plan — a family of four pays AED 999 in total, roughly AED 250 each, with nobody sharing a bus.

Do you charge more at night?+

No. Overnight layover plans cost the same as daytime ones. There is no night rate and no surge, which matters because the awkward connections are almost always the nocturnal ones.

    How do I book?+

Send the two flight numbers on WhatsApp. We reply with your usable hours, the plan that fits, the price, and the driver’s name and plate before you fly. No deposit — you pay the driver on the day.

Do you charge more for a night arrival?

No. There is no night surcharge, no airport surcharge and no fuel surcharge. A pickup at three in the morning costs the same as a pickup at three in the afternoon, and the team is on WhatsApp around the clock either way.

What is the shortest layover you will accept?

Six hours on the ground. Under that, the immigration queue, the drive in, the drive back and the buffer at the terminal consume everything, and we will tell you to stay airside rather than sell you a plan that cannot be done safely. We would rather lose the booking than have you run for a gate.

Can I do a Dubai transit tour without leaving the airport?

No. Every tour on this page is landside, which means you clear immigration first. If you cannot or would rather not enter the country, stay airside and use the lounges, sleep pods and shower rooms — there is a section on this page covering what DXB actually has if you are not leaving.

If we have to cancel, what happens?

A cancellation policy that covers your obligations but not ours is only half a document. Here is our side of it, in writing.

If we have to cancel your booking — for weather, a vehicle issue, or driver illness — we will contact you as soon as we know and rebook you at no charge on the next date that works for you. You pay nothing for the cancelled booking.

If we need to send a different vehicle than the one you booked, we will ask you first rather than turning up in something you did not book.

This is separate from your own cancellation rights, which are unchanged: you can cancel free up to 12 hours before pickup. Because we take no deposit and no booking fee, there is no money of yours sitting with us either way — nothing to chase, and nothing to wait for.
