You meet your guides at the dunes, get fitted with a helmet and goggles, and receive your safety briefing.

2. Controls and a practice loop

The guide walks you through throttle, brakes and steering, then you take a short practice loop on gentle ground until you feel confident.

3. Hit the dunes in convoy

With a guide leading, you ride out across the Al Khatim dunes — climbing, carving and cruising the sand at your own pace, with support riders keeping the group safe.

4. Photo stops and open sand

Your guide pauses at scenic spots for photos and, on the open sand, gives you room to really open up the throttle safely.

5. Cool-down and refreshments

Best Time to Ride

Self-drive rides run year-round, but they are most comfortable from October to March. Early morning and late afternoon are ideal — cooler temperatures, softer light and the most enjoyable riding conditions.

Rides take place in the Al Khatim desert, about 45 minutes from central Abu Dhabi. We collect guests from hotels and homes, and from mall meeting points — Al Wahda Mall, Mazyad Mall, Safeer Mall and Shabiya (Musaffah). Dubai and Al Ain pickups can be arranged on request.

Filming Your Ride

A self-drive session is made for video — and because your hands are on the controls, a mount is the way to capture it.
