It sells rooms in 6, 12 and 24-hour packages, and you must show a boarding pass for an onward flight to check in — arriving passengers ending their journey in Abu Dhabi cannot use it. The old Aerotel is closed (it lived in the old Terminal 1), and the Premier Inn is not connected to the terminal any more: it sits 6 km away and its own website says the shuttle is suspended, so it is a 15-minute taxi each way. AUHotel: What It’s Actually Like Inside
The airport’s own page keeps it short: flexible 6/12/24-hour packages, open around the clock, boarding pass required. Here is what that page doesn’t tell you, from travellers who have slept there.
Finding it: clear transit security into international departures, then head for the middle of the terminal — the check-in desk sits at a shared entrance with the Pearl Lounge. Arriving transit passengers take the escalators down to ground level.
The rooms are compact and functional rather than plush: a proper bed, desk, TV, private bathroom and free Wi-Fi, with a hairdryer on request. One reviewer called the space “extremely small” — fair, but you are paying for a horizontal bed and a shower airside, not a resort.
The honest cons, because no booking site will print them: hallway noise runs all night as guests come and go on odd flight times, so pack earplugs; the front desk runs lean overnight (one traveller’s wake-up call never came — set your own alarm); checkout is strict to the hour you booked; and one guest’s online reservation could not be found in the system, so carry a printed or offline copy of your confirmation.
The pricing trap: the same 6-hour room that costs around $78–$85 booked online was quoted at $130 at the desk. If there is any chance you will want a room, book it before you board your first flight.
The Two Old-Airport Traps Most Guides Still Publish
Trap one: “Book the Aerotel.” The Aerotel was the transit hotel of the old Terminal 1 and it is closed — even the exact-match booking site still carrying its page opens with “Aerotel Abu Dhabi is now closed.” If a guide recommends it, everything else in that guide predates Terminal A and deserves the same suspicion.
Trap two: “The Premier Inn is connected to the terminal.” It was — to the old Terminals 1 and 3, by a walkway. Terminal A changed the geography: Premier Inn’s own website now says it is 6 km and “a short 15 minute taxi ride” away, and adds, in its own words, “we’re sorry our shuttle service is not operating until further notice.” Budget a taxi both ways and the immigration queue on top before comparing its room rate with AUHotel’s.
