A half-day is 3–4 hours and AED 699. A full day is 6–8 hours and AED 899. The difference is AED 200 — and roughly four landmarks. This page shows you exactly what you gain, and when the half-day is genuinely the better buy.

The 4-Hour Tour Is Real. The 4-Hour Tour From Dubai Is Not.

Dubai to Abu Dhabi is 140 km — about 90 minutes each way. A “half-day from Dubai” leaves you roughly one hour in the capital. If you are staying in Dubai, book the full day.

: The Short Answer

A half-day is 3–4 hours and AED 699. A full day is 6–8 hours and AED 899. The difference is AED 200 — and roughly four landmarks.

  • How much is a full-day Abu Dhabi city tour? +: A full-day Abu Dhabi city tour costs AED 899 per car in a private Toyota Land Cruiser for up to 6 guests — AED 150 per person at full capacity.
  • How long is a full-day Abu Dhabi city tour? +: Eight hours or more, typically 08:30 to 17:30 with pickup and drop-off at your Abu Dhabi hotel.
  • What time does the evening desert safari run?: Pickup is usually 3:00 to 3:30 PM and you are back in the city around 10:00 to 10:30 PM. Timings follow sunset, so in December pickup moves earlier and in June it moves later.
  • Where is your desert camp?: At our own DCT-licensed camp in the Al Khatim desert, roughly 80 km east of Abu Dhabi city along the E22 Abu Dhabi to Al Ain highway, about a 50 to 60 minute drive.
  • What is included in the desert safari?: Every evening package includes 4×4 dune bashing, a short camel ride, sandboarding, a sunset photo stop, Arabic costume for photos, henna for ladies, a full BBQ buffet dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, unlimited soft drinks, water, Arabic coffee and tea, a shisha corner, separate washrooms and around eight live shows including tanoura, belly dance and a fire show.
  • How do I book?: Message us on WhatsApp with your date and group size. We reply with the exact total, no deposit and no booking fee, and you pay at the camp on the day.

Quick answer: A full day Abu Dhabi city tour costs AED 899 per car and a half day Abu Dhabi city tour costs AED 699 per car. In detail: the half day is three to four hours in a private 4×4 for up to 6 guests — three to four hours, a private 4×4, up to 6 guests, covering four landmarks: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (interior visit), Emirates Palace, the Abu Dhabi Corniche and Etihad Towers. A full-day Abu Dhabi city tour costs AED 899 per car — 6–8 hours in a private sedan or 4×4 (Land Cruiser AED 1,099), up to 6 guests, covering around eight landmarks, adding Heritage Village, Qasr Al Watan, the Louvre Abu Dhabi option and Yas Island, with time to go inside paid attractions. There is also a 6-hour middle option at AED 799 in a 7-seater — the cheapest per person at AED 114. All prices are per vehicle, not per person. The difference between half-day and full-day is AED 200 and roughly four extra landmarks. Book the full day if you have a free day. The half day Abu Dhabi city tour, hour by hour

What does the extra AED 200 on a full day Abu Dhabi city tour buy?

This is the question the entire page exists to answer: what does a full day Abu Dhabi city tour give you that a half day Abu Dhabi city tour does not? Here is the honest ledger.

    You gainWhy it matters
Four more hours3–4 hrs → 6–8 hrs. Roughly double the time on the ground for 29% more money.
Heritage VillageThe only stop that explains the others — the pre-oil UAE with the skyline behind it.
Time inside a paid attractionQasr Al Watan or the Louvre Abu Dhabi. On the half-day this is simply impossible.
Yas Island / Ferrari WorldA 30 km run east. There is no room for it in a half day.
A real lunchSixty unhurried minutes, somewhere you choose.
An extra 15 min at the mosque90 min instead of 75. Small, but you will feel it.
A Toyota Land CruiserThe full day upgrades the vehicle, not just the hours.
No clockThe thing people actually remember.

AED 200, split across a family of five, is AED 40 each. We are not going to pretend that is a difficult decision — but we will tell you when the half-day is nevertheless the right one, and that section is below.

The 6-hour middle option between the half day and full day Abu Dhabi city tour

Most operators offer half-day or full-day and stop there. We run a 6-hour tour at AED 799 in a 7-seater, and for a lot of people it is the correct answer to a question they did not know they were asking.

Read that fourth row. The 6-hour tour is the cheapest per person of anything we sell — AED 114 with seven guests — and it costs only AED 100 more than the half-day while giving you two extra hours and an extra seat. If you have five to seven people and no need to enter a museum, this is the one to book.

Full day Abu Dhabi city tour — Heritage Village gate
Heritage Village appears on the 6-hour and full-day tours. It is the first thing the half-day loses.

Booking a full day Abu Dhabi city tour from Dubai

There is no such thing as an honest half-day Abu Dhabi tour from Dubai. Dubai to Abu Dhabi is about 140 km on the E11 (Sheikh Zayed Road) — roughly 90 minutes each way. That is three hours of driving. A four-hour tour would give you about one hour in the capital: enough to look at the mosque from outside and turn around.

Our AED 699 half-day is a genuinely good product — but only with pickup inside Abu Dhabi city, where the arithmetic works. If you are in a Dubai hotel, the honest options are the full day (10–11 hours door to door, including the drive each way) or nothing.

You will still see operators advertising half-day trips from Dubai. Ask them one question: “How many minutes will I spend at each stop?” The conversation usually ends there. Full detail on the Dubai route is on our Abu Dhabi City Tour from Dubai page — including why we quote Dubai pickup on WhatsApp instead of advertising a fake “from” price.

When the half day Abu Dhabi city tour is genuinely the right choice

We would rather sell you the AED 699 tour that suits you than the AED 899 full day Abu Dhabi city tour that does not. Book the half day Abu Dhabi city tour if any of these is true.

    • You have a layover. Six to eight hours between flights at Abu Dhabi International? The half-day fits with room to spare. Send us your flight numbers and we build the timings backwards from your gate.
    • You are on a cruise stop. Ships dock at Zayed Port, and you have a hard return time. Four hours, back early, no risk.
    • You have one free morning. A conference, a wedding, a work trip — and a single window before something else.
    • The mosque is genuinely all you want. Some people come to Abu Dhabi for Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and nothing else. That is a completely legitimate trip, and four hours does it properly.
    • You are travelling with very young children. Eight hours is a long day for a three-year-old. Four is not.
    • You have been before. You already did the full circuit; you just want the mosque and the Corniche again.

If none of those describes you, and you have a free day — book the full day. You will not regret the AED 200.

Seventy-five minutes on the half-day, ninety on the full day. Neither is a rushed visit.

It is the largest mosque in the UAE, holds more than 40,000 worshippers, and was completed in 2007 after eleven years of construction. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding president of the UAE, is buried in the courtyard beside it.

    • 82 domes in white Macedonian marble; the largest rises 85 metres above the prayer hall.
    • 1,096 columns, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, red agate and amethyst.
    • The world’s largest hand-knotted carpet — 5,627 m², woven by roughly 1,200 artisans, weighing around 35 tonnes.
    • Seven Swarovski-crystal chandeliers; the largest is about 10 m across and 15 m tall.
    • Four minarets, each 107 metres.
    • A courtyard marble mosaic of some 17,000 m².

Entry is free. Always, for everyone. Any operator listing “mosque entry included” as a benefit of the full day is including nothing that the half-day does not also include, because there is nothing to include. What you are paying for is the car, the timing, and a driver who tells you the dress code before you arrive rather than after you are refused.

The one timing rule that matters

The mosque fills from around 10:00. Both our tours are built to get you there before that. On a shared coach you arrive when the schedule says — usually into the crowd. This is the clearest practical advantage of a private car, and it applies equally to the half-day and the full day.

On Friday mornings the mosque is closed to non-worshipping visitors, reopening in the afternoon. On either of our tours we simply run the route in reverse. A coach cannot.

Five mistakes people make booking a full day Abu Dhabi city tour

    1. Booking a half-day from Dubai

Three of the four hours are the E11 motorway. It is the single most common and most costly mistake on this page. Book the full day.

    2. Booking the half day when you should book the full day Abu Dhabi city tour

The gap is AED 200. The gap in what you see is four landmarks and the ability to go inside anything. Almost everyone who books the half-day on a free day tells us afterwards they wished they had taken the full one.

    3. Not knowing the 6-hour option exists

Most operators sell half-day or full-day and nothing between. Our AED 799 six-hour tour is AED 100 more than the half-day, adds two hours and a seventh seat, and is the cheapest per person of anything we run at AED 114. It is the right answer more often than either extreme.

    4. Comparing a per-person price with a per-car price

A “full day from AED 150” sounds cheaper than AED 899 until you have six people. Then it is AED 900, and it is a bus. Always ask which unit.

    5. Booking the full day and starting at 10am

You arrive at the mosque with every coach in the emirate. The eight hours are worth far more starting at 08:30 than at 10:00 — you are buying the early, quiet part of the day as much as the extra stops.

Why book direct with Royal Arabian Safari?

We run the full day Abu Dhabi city tour in our own vehicles. We are a DTCM-licensed UAE tour operator, rated 4.9★ by more than 5,000 guests. We own our vehicles and we employ our drivers, which is the only reason we can price per car instead of per head — an agency brokering coach seats has a per-seat cost to recover and cannot do this, however it words its marketing.

    • No booking fee, no service charge, no processing fee.
    • No prepayment. Confirm on WhatsApp, pay on the day.
    • No card details given to a third-party platform.
    • Free cancellation.
    • Zero markup on attraction tickets — we do not resell them at all.
    • Upgrade on the day from half-day to full-day if the vehicle is free. Pay only the difference.

Booking through Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook or Booking.com adds a platform commission — commonly 20–30% — to your price, not to the operator’s margin. Same car, same driver, direct on WhatsApp: that commission does not exist.

Written by the operations team at Royal Arabian Safari, a DTCM-licensed tour operator in the UAE. We run both of these itineraries in our own vehicles, several times a week, and the timings above are the timings we actually keep. Every price is one we charge. Where we have told you to book the cheaper tour, or a competitor’s coach, we meant it. Landmark facts come from the operators and owners of each attraction. If anything here is wrong, message us and we will correct it.

    COMMON QUESTIONS

    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your Abu Dhabi desert safari.

    Should I book a full-day or half-day Abu Dhabi city tour? +
Book the full day if you have a free day. The half-day (4 hours, AED 699) covers four landmarks — Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace, the Corniche and Etihad Towers. The full day (8+ hours, AED 899) covers around eight, adding Heritage Village, Qasr Al Watan, the Louvre option and Yas Island, with time to actually go inside things. The price difference is AED 200 for roughly double the tour. Book the half day only if you have a layover, a cruise stop, one free morning, or you are certain the mosque is all you want.
How much is a full-day Abu Dhabi city tour? +
A full-day Abu Dhabi city tour costs AED 899 per car in a private Toyota Land Cruiser for up to 6 guests — AED 150 per person at full capacity. The 8-hour luxury Lexus version, seating up to 7, is AED 1,499. Both are priced per vehicle, not per person. Across the market, full-day tours are advertised at roughly AED 109–899, but almost always per person on a shared coach.
How much is a half-day Abu Dhabi city tour? +
A half-day Abu Dhabi city tour costs AED 699 per car — a private 4×4 for up to 6 guests, for three to four hours. That is AED 117 per person at full capacity, which is less than most operators charge for a single seat on a shared coach. It covers Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (interior visit), Emirates Palace, the Abu Dhabi Corniche and Etihad Towers.
How long is a full-day Abu Dhabi city tour? +
Eight hours or more, typically 08:30 to 17:30 with pickup and drop-off at your Abu Dhabi hotel. If you are joining from Dubai, add roughly 90 minutes of driving each way — Dubai to Abu Dhabi is about 140 km on the E11 — which makes it a 9 to 10 hour day door to door.
Is a half-day tour enough to see Abu Dhabi? +
Honestly: no, but it is enough to see the best of it. Four hours gets you a proper 75–90 minute interior visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace, the Corniche and Etihad Towers. What you lose is Heritage Village, Qasr Al Watan, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Yas Island and any unhurried time. If the mosque is the reason you came, the half-day does the job. If you want to understand the city, it does not.
Can I do a half-day Abu Dhabi tour from Dubai? +
No — and anyone selling you one is not being straight with you. Dubai to Abu Dhabi is about 140 km, roughly 90 minutes each way on the E11. A four-hour tour would leave you with about one hour in the capital: enough to look at the mosque and turn around. Our AED 699 half-day is genuinely excellent, but only with pickup inside Abu Dhabi city. From Dubai, book the full day.
What is the difference between the 6-hour and the full-day tour? +
The 6-hour tour (AED 799 in a 7-seater, AED 1,050 in a Land Cruiser) covers about six landmarks and gives you the mosque, Heritage Village, Emirates Palace, the Corniche, Etihad Towers and a Yas Island photo stop. The full day (AED 899) adds time to go inside things — Qasr Al Watan, or the Louvre Abu Dhabi — plus a relaxed lunch and no clock-watching. If you want to enter a paid attraction, take the full day. If you only want to see the city, six hours is plenty.
Which tour is cheapest per person? +
The AED 799 six-hour 7-seater, at AED 114 per person with seven guests — the cheapest genuinely private option we offer. The half-day works out at AED 117 per person with six guests, and the full-day at AED 150. Because every price is per vehicle, the more people you bring, the cheaper it gets per head.
Do both tours include the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque? +
Yes — and on both you go inside, not just a photo stop from the car park. You walk the main prayer hall with the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet (5,627 m²) and the Swarovski-crystal chandeliers. The mosque has 82 domes and 1,096 columns. Entry is free to every visitor — nobody can legitimately charge you for it. We handle the drive, the timing and the dress-code briefing.
Can I upgrade from half-day to full-day on the day? +
Usually yes, subject to the vehicle being free. Tell your driver in the morning and we will confirm on WhatsApp — you pay the difference, and nothing else. It is far easier than the reverse, so if you are genuinely undecided, book the half-day and upgrade rather than the other way round.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you arrange Abu Dhabi city tours as well as desert safaris?

Yes. Alongside our desert safaris we arrange Abu Dhabi city tours taking in Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Corniche, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and Louvre Abu Dhabi, plus day trips to Al Ain and Dubai. Ask us about combining a city tour with a desert safari for better value.

Can I combine a city tour with a desert safari on the same day?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. A morning or half-day city tour pairs well with an evening desert safari, which picks up around 3:00 to 3:30 PM. Message us with your dates and we will build a timing that works without rushing you.

How much does a desert safari cost if I add one?

Our desert safari prices are AED 35 self-drive, AED 50 shared bus from Al Wahda or Mazyad Mall, AED 100 shared hotel pickup, AED 599 for a private 7-seater car and AED 800 for a private Land Cruiser. There is no booking fee and no deposit, and you pay on arrival.

What is included in the desert safari?

Every evening package includes 4×4 dune bashing, a short camel ride, sandboarding, a sunset photo stop, Arabic costume for photos, henna for ladies, a full BBQ buffet dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, unlimited soft drinks, water, Arabic coffee and tea, a shisha corner, separate washrooms and around eight live shows including tanoura, belly dance and a fire show.

    Where is your desert camp?

At our own DCT-licensed camp in the Al Khatim desert, roughly 80 km east of Abu Dhabi city along the E22 Abu Dhabi to Al Ain highway, about a 50 to 60 minute drive.

What time does the evening desert safari run?

Pickup is usually 3:00 to 3:30 PM and you are back in the city around 10:00 to 10:30 PM. Timings follow sunset, so in December pickup moves earlier and in June it moves later.

    Is hotel pickup included?

Yes on the AED 100 shared pickup and both private car options, covering the whole of Abu Dhabi city including the airport. The AED 50 option departs from Al Wahda Mall or Mazyad Mall.

What should I wear for the desert?

Loose, light-coloured clothing covering shoulders and knees, and closed shoes. Bring a jacket from October to April, when camp temperatures drop to 13 to 22 degrees after sunset. For the Grand Mosque the dress code is stricter — ankles and wrists covered plus a headscarf for women, long trousers for men.

Is the Grand Mosque dress code different from the desert?

Yes, and it catches people out. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque enforces its dress code, while the desert camp has no enforced code. If you are doing both on the same day, wear the mosque-compliant outfit with a layer you can remove once you reach the dunes.

    How do I book?

Message us on WhatsApp with your date and group size. We reply with the exact total, no deposit and no booking fee, and you pay at the camp on the day. Free cancellation applies up to 12 hours before.

    Do you offer private tours?

Yes. A private car keeps your group alone in the vehicle with your own pickup time and pace. The private desert safari is AED 599 per car for up to seven guests, or AED 800 for the premium Land Cruiser.

    Is it suitable for children?

Yes. City tours are easy for all ages, and the desert safari suits children from about age three with gentle dune bashing on request.

What is the best time of year to visit?

November to March gives the most comfortable weather for both city sightseeing and the desert. October and April are excellent value. From May to September plan indoor attractions by day and a morning desert safari rather than an evening one.

Can you collect us from a cruise ship or the airport?

Yes. We collect from Abu Dhabi cruise terminal and Abu Dhabi International Airport as well as hotels and residences. For a tight port day or layover the morning safari usually fits better than the evening one.

Do you offer group and corporate bookings?

Yes. For five or more people a private car at AED 699 works out cheaper per head than individual pickups, and for larger groups we combine multiple vehicles. Send us your numbers and dates and we will work out the best combination.

If we have to cancel, what happens?

A cancellation policy that covers your obligations but not ours is only half a document. Here is our side of it, in writing.

If we have to cancel your booking — for weather, a vehicle issue, or driver illness — we will contact you as soon as we know and rebook you at no charge on the next date that works for you. You pay nothing for the cancelled booking.

If we need to send a different vehicle than the one you booked, we will ask you first rather than turning up in something you did not book.

This is separate from your own cancellation rights, which are unchanged: you can cancel free up to 12 hours before pickup. Because we take no deposit and no booking fee, there is no money of yours sitting with us either way — nothing to chase, and nothing to wait for.
