BAPS Mandir Round Trip — AED 699 Per Car, Driver Waits

The mandir sits out on Al Taf Road towards Al Wathba — a 30 to 40 minute drive from central Abu Dhabi, and there is no metro and no convenient bus. A one-way taxi out there is easy; getting one back from an empty desert road at 9pm after Ganga Aarti is not. That is the entire reason this service exists.

What AED 699 includes: a private air-conditioned vehicle for up to seven guests, an English-speaking driver, hotel or home pickup anywhere in Abu Dhabi city, the drive out and back, a two-hour wait at the mandir, fuel, parking and bottled water for the road. What it does not include: nothing at the mandir costs money — entry is free — so there is nothing else to pay. Child seats are fitted free on request.

Timings, Ganga Aarti and the Best Hour to Arrive

The best arrival time is about 6:00 PM. You get the carved sandstone and marble in the last of the daylight, the mandir lit as darkness falls, and the aarti to finish — three completely different visual experiences in one visit, for free. Morning visits are cooler and quieter but you miss the illumination and the ceremony entirely. What You Cannot Bring In — the Full Prohibited List

Security is airport-grade and the list is longer than visitors expect. Two items catch almost everyone: water and selfie sticks. Note that the guidelines apply in the car park too, not only inside the mandir.

Leave all of it in the car — which is one quiet advantage of arriving in a private vehicle rather than a coach: your bag, your water and your camera stay with the driver instead of going into a locker queue.

Dress code — enforced at the gate

Shoulders and knees covered for everyone. No shorts, no skirts above the knee, no sleeveless tops. Nothing tight-fitting or transparent, nothing excessively shiny or noisy, and no clothing with provocative designs or explicit political statements. Unlike the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, no headscarf is required. If your outfit does not pass, sarongs are available at a cost at the front desk — but arriving dressed correctly is faster and cheaper. Shoes come off before entering the mandir itself.

Photography

Phone photography and filming are allowed for personal, non-commercial use. Cameras — private, commercial or journalistic — need prior written permission from the mandir. Selfie sticks are prohibited entirely. If you want the photograph everyone wants, shoot the seven spires from the forecourt just after the floodlights come on.

Coming from Dubai or Sharjah?

Here is the fact almost every listing gets wrong: the mandir is closer to Dubai than Abu Dhabi city is. It sits at Exit 366 on the E11, on the Dubai side of the capital, so you never actually drive into Abu Dhabi.

The honest arithmetic on doing it yourself: a taxi out and a taxi back is roughly AED 440–540 — and the return leg is the gamble, because there is very little passing traffic out there after the evening aarti. A private car with a waiting driver removes that risk for a similar order of money, and it carries up to seven people for the same figure.

Private Car vs the AED 50 Shared Coach — the Honest Comparison

Shared coach tours from Dubai advertise the mandir for around AED 50 per person, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Here is when each option is genuinely the right one.

Straight answer: two people travelling from Dubai on a weekend should take the coach — AED 100 total beats anything we can do. A family, a group of five to seven, elderly parents, anyone visiting on a weekday, or anyone who wants to be there for Ganga Aarti and not be marched back to a bus, should take the private car. We would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong thing.

The temple will turn you away without this — and almost nobody selling this tour says so

This is the most important section on the page, so it is at the top. The BAPS Hindu Mandir does not admit walk-ins. Every visitor must be registered in advance, and unregistered visitors are denied entry. You must carry a physical Emirates ID or passport — a photograph on your phone is refused. Registration must be completed after you have arrived in the UAE. And the mandir is closed on Mondays, opening Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 20:00. Source: mandir.ae, read 16 August.

We audited every operator selling this tour on page one. Not one of them states that pre-booking is mandatory or that unregistered visitors are refused. On one major listing the requirement surfaces only inside user reviews — from travellers who found out the hard way. Nobody states who does the registering, the operator or you, which on a tour whose headline stop refuses entry without it is the single most important unanswered question on the SERP.

On the Monday closure: one page-one competitor writes roughly 4,500 words entirely about the temple and never mentions it. Another publishes exactly one Monday warning and points it at the wrong building — warning that the Louvre is closed on Mondays, which is true, while saying nothing about the temple the tour is named after. A major OTA lets you book a Monday date. Only one operator states it at all, buried in body copy rather than beside the calendar.

We register every guest in advance as part of the booking, using the names on your passports, and we tell you before you pay if your chosen date is a Monday.

Two temples, two registration systems, one day

Almost every product on this search bundles the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with the mandir, and both require separate advance registration — the mosque needs its own free online access pass obtained before arrival, with visiting hours of 09:00 to 20:30 and a split Friday of 09:00–11:30 and 14:30–20:30. No competitor page explains how the two fit together. Here is the practical answer. Monday is out because the mandir is closed. Friday needs an early start or an afternoon mosque slot. On any other day the comfortable order is the mosque first thing, when it is cool and quiet, then the mandir in the afternoon — and if you want to stay for Ganga Aarti, it runs at 19:30 on weekdays and at 18:45 and 19:30 at weekends and holidays. Dress modestly for both. The mandir asks for clothing that covers the shoulders and knees; the mosque requires long sleeves and long clothing with hair covered for women.

Per car, and why that matters more here than anywhere

Every product ranking for this search prices per person except one. This is a tour bought overwhelmingly by families and multi-generational groups — grandparents, parents and children visiting a temple together — which is exactly the buyer per-person pricing punishes hardest.

We price per vehicle. One number whether there are two of you or six, and children add nothing. The correct child restraints are fitted free, which in the UAE is the law rather than a courtesy: a child up to four must be in a child safety seat, a front-seat passenger must be at least 145 cm and at least ten years old, and every passenger including in the back must wear a seat belt, on pain of AED 400 and four black points. And a point the SERP misses almost entirely: we depart from Abu Dhabi. Nearly every product ranking for this term leaves from Dubai, which means paying for around 280 km of driving before your day begins. If you are already in Abu Dhabi, you should not be buying a Dubai departure.

When not to book this tour

If you are staying in Dubai, take a Dubai-departure product — ours from Abu Dhabi will not suit you, and the from-Dubai operators on this search do that job.

If your only reason to travel is the mandir and you have a full free day, consider going independently: registration is free, entry is free, and a car with a driver is worth paying for when you are combining several stops rather than making one.

And if your dates are fixed to a Monday, do not let anyone sell you this tour. Book the city tour without the temple, or move the day. We would rather move your booking than take payment for a locked door.

What Is Actually Inside — and Why It Took So Long to Build

The BAPS Hindu Mandir is the first traditional Hindu stone mandir in the Middle East, built on land gifted by the UAE leadership and inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister. It stands 108 feet tall with seven spires representing the seven emirates, and it is built the ancient way — hand-carved Italian marble and Rajasthani pink sandstone, shaped by artisans in India, shipped in numbered pieces and assembled here without structural steel.

What to look for once you are inside the complex: the carved narrative panels running the Ramayana, the Shiv Purana and the Mahabharata alongside scenes from Arab, Chinese, Mayan and African civilisations — the deliberate design choice that earned the mandir a Tolerance Award. The Ganga and Yamuna water features, fed with water flown from the rivers themselves, where the aarti is performed. The Dome of Harmony and the Dome of Peace. And the carvings of elephants throughout, each one telling its own small story.

On site there is a food court serving vegetarian Indian food, a gift shop, free parking, wheelchairs on request and priority entry for People of Determination. Allow 60 to 90 minutes to walk it properly — two hours if you are staying for the aarti, which is exactly why our round trip includes a two-hour wait.

How Many Hindu Temples Are in Abu Dhabi and the UAE?

In Abu Dhabi: one. BAPS Hindu Mandir is the emirate’s only Hindu temple, and the first traditional stone mandir anywhere in the Middle East. In the UAE: a small handful — the historic Hindu temple complex in the Bur Dubai souk area, which has served the community for decades, and the temple in Jebel Ali’s worship village. BAPS Abu Dhabi is by far the largest and the only one built in the traditional stone shilpa-shastra style, which is why it draws visitors of every faith rather than only worshippers.

And to answer the question people actually type: you do not have to be Hindu to visit. The mandir was designed as a visitor destination as much as a place of worship, guided volunteers explain everything, and most people walking through it on any given evening are not Hindu.
