Private Desert Safari Abu Dhabi: The Short Answer
Dune bashing, camel ride, falconry, BBQ dinner under the stars & live Bedouin shows. Hotel pickup included.
- Is a private desert safari worth the extra cost?: For families, groups and special occasions, yes. You get the vehicle, guide and schedule to yourself, a tailored pace and unlimited photo stops.
- What happens if we need to change our timing on the day?: Because your safari is private, we have far more flexibility than a shared tour. Message us as early as possible and we will do our best to accommodate changes.
- Can we bring young children and elderly guests?: Absolutely. The private option is ideal for mixed-age groups because you set a comfortable pace and can skip or soften any activity.
- Is dune bashing safe on a private safari?: Yes, and you control the intensity. Our licensed drivers can keep the ride gentle for children and nervous guests or make it more adventurous on request.
- What is the difference between private and shared?: On a private safari the 4×4 and guide are exclusively yours with flexible timing; on a shared safari you travel with other tourists on a fixed schedule.
Booking a private safari online can feel risky. Here is why guests book direct with us.

Private Desert Safari Abu Dhabi: Quick Answers
How much is a private desert safari in Abu Dhabi?
A private Land Cruiser with your own driver starts at AED 699 (USD 190) per car for up to 6 guests, with dune bashing, camp, BBQ dinner and shows included. A premium VIP setup with private majlis seating is AED 899 (USD 245) per car. You pay the driver after the trip, never a deposit.
Is it priced per car or per person?
Per car, not per person. The AED 699 (USD 190) covers the whole 4×4 for your group of up to 6, so a family or group of friends shares one flat price. That is what makes a private safari better value than per-person shared seats once you are three or more.
What does private actually get you?
Your own 4×4 and driver, no strangers in the vehicle, a pickup time that flexes around your group, dune bashing at your own pace, and a quieter seating area at camp on request. Everything at the camp, dinner and shows included, is the same as the shared safari.
How many people fit in one private safari?
One Land Cruiser seats up to 6 guests comfortably at AED 699 (USD 190) per car. Larger groups just add another vehicle, and we keep the convoy together. Tell us your group size on WhatsApp and we confirm the exact setup and price.
What happens after you book your private safari
- You message us your date, group size and hotel. We reply in minutes on WhatsApp with the exact per-car price, no deposit asked.
- You get a written confirmation with the price locked and your pickup time, which we flex to suit your group.
- The afternoon before, we send your driver name, the 4×4 plate and the pickup time.
- You ride, dine, watch the shows, then pay the driver after, cash or card.
Still deciding? The honest answers:
- You pay after the trip, not before. No card details taken to hold your booking.
- Free cancellation up to 12 hours before pickup, no fee.
- One flat price for the whole car, up to 6 guests. No per-person surprises at the camp.
- Nervous rider or young kids? Your driver keeps the dune bashing as soft as you want.
- Vehicle trouble? We run our own fleet, so a backup 4×4 comes from our camp, not a third party.

It is our camp — and that is why we can promise the rest of this page
We built our desert camp and we run it. We are not buying you a seat at somebody else’s. It sounds like a small distinction and it is the most important one on this page, because almost every operator ranking for these searches is reselling space at a camp they do not control.
Here is what that actually changes for your evening, in plain terms:
| What we can commit to | Why a reseller cannot |
|---|---|
| Nobody will pressure you to buy an upgrade. | Our camp, our staff, no commission on extras. A reseller does not employ the people selling henna, photographs and seating once you arrive. |
| Your seating is settled before you travel. | We are not buying tables from a host camp that tiers them and sells the better ones on arrival — which is exactly where guests report feeling cornered. |
| Vegetarian, Jain or allergy meals arranged properly. | We run the kitchen. A reseller has to ask a favour of a camp that has never met you. |
| The timings we quote are the timings you get. | We are not fitted around another camp’s schedule and another operator’s coaches. |
| We can answer questions about the animals. | It is our operation, so there is someone to ask. Ask a reseller about camel rest periods and there is nobody on the other end of the question. |
| You can have the camp without the dune drive. | We can reshape the evening because it is ours to reshape. |
We are a DCT-licensed Abu Dhabi operator. And where this page says we will confirm something in writing before you pay, that is not a hedge — it is us checking our own operation rather than repeating a promise made by a company we booked you with.
Private Desert Safari Abu Dhabi — Your Own 4×4, Your Own Pace
A private desert safari in Abu Dhabi gives you the whole experience to yourself: your own 4×4, your own driver-guide, and a schedule built around your family or group — no strangers, no waiting, no fixed group timing. With Royal Arabian Safari you get a private car for up to 7 guests from just AED 699, or the freedom to drive your own car to the dunes. This complete guide explains exactly what a private safari includes, who it suits, how it compares to a shared safari, transparent pricing, customisation options, and how to book direct for the best price. Everything reflects how we actually run our private tours as a DCT-licensed Abu Dhabi operator.
What Is a Private Desert Safari?
A private desert safari means the vehicle, the driver-guide and the itinerary are exclusively yours. Instead of sharing a Land Cruiser with other tourists on a fixed schedule, you travel only with your own family, friends or partner. That single change transforms the experience: you set the pace, choose gentle or intense dune bashing, stop for photos whenever you like, and enjoy the camp without crowds. It is the top choice for families with children, couples marking a special occasion, groups of friends, corporate outings and anyone who values privacy and flexibility over the lower price of a shared seat.
With us, “private” comes in two forms. You can book a private car where we provide the 4×4 and driver for your group alone, or you can choose self-drive and bring your own car to our desert meeting point — a genuinely private, budget-friendly way to enjoy the dunes and camp. Both give you exclusivity; you simply pick the level of service you want.
Why Choose a Private Safari Over a Shared One?
- Total privacy — the 4×4 and guide are yours alone; no sharing with strangers.
- Flexible timing — start when you want, including an early morning or a relaxed evening; adjust the pace to your group.
- Family comfort — choose a gentle dune-bashing ride for children and older guests, or go full-throttle if you love the thrill.
- Special occasions — ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, proposals and corporate team days; we can help make it memorable.
- Better value for groups — at AED 699 for up to 7, a private car is often cheaper per person than seven shared seats.
- Personal attention — a dedicated guide who tailors the day to your interests, from photography to falconry.
Our Private Safari Options & Prices
Transparent, confirmed pricing — no hidden fees, pay on arrival:
| Option | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Private Car (up to 7 guests) | AED 699 / car | Families & groups wanting a dedicated 4×4 and guide |
| Self-Drive (your own car) | From AED 35 / person | Budget-conscious guests who want privacy and flexibility |
| Private Hotel Pickup | AED 100 / person | Door-to-door private transfer |
| Private VIP | On request | Premium seating, private table and elevated service |
A private car at AED 699 works out to roughly AED 86 per person for a full group of seven — far below the AED 400–1,000+ that many operators charge for a private safari. You get your own vehicle, your own driver and a flexible schedule for that one price.
Your Private Safari Experience, Step by Step
Here is how a private desert safari with us unfolds. Because it is private, every timing below is flexible and can be shaped around your group.
Private pickup and the drive out
Your journey starts with a private pickup from your hotel or home in your exclusive 4×4 — or, if you have chosen self-drive, you meet us at the desert edge. The drive to the Al Khatim dune belt takes around 45 minutes, and because the vehicle is yours, there are no other pickups and no waiting for other guests.
Dune bashing at your pace
At the dunes your driver lowers the tyre pressure and the dune bashing begins. This is where private really shines: tell your guide whether you want a thrilling fast-track ride over the big dunes or a gentle slow-track drive for children and older guests, and they will tailor it exactly. You can stop for photos whenever the light or the view is right — no rushing to keep a group schedule.
Camel ride, sandboarding and activities
Enjoy a camel ride across the dunes, try sandboarding down the slopes, and pose for photos in traditional Arabic dress. Many private guests add a falcon photo, quad biking or a dune buggy — all arranged in advance so your day flows smoothly. Children love having the space and time to try everything without queues.
Your private camp experience
On an evening private safari you settle into the desert camp for an unlimited BBQ dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, plus live tanoura and belly-dance shows, henna and shisha. On a private morning safari you enjoy the sunrise, light refreshments and photography before heading back. Either way, the pace is yours.
A relaxed return
When your group is ready, your driver takes you back — not when a shared group decides, but when you decide. That control is the essence of a private safari.
Group Size & Vehicle Capacity
Our private car comfortably seats up to 7 guests in one Land Cruiser — ideal for a family or a group of friends. Smaller groups are very welcome; a couple or a family of four still gets the whole vehicle and guide to themselves. For larger parties, corporate groups or events, we can arrange multiple private vehicles in convoy — just tell us your numbers and we will build the right setup. There is no minimum group size for a private booking; the AED 699 price is for the car, however many (up to 7) of you travel in it.
Customise Your Private Safari
Because it is private, your safari can be tailored in ways a shared tour never can. You can choose your timing (an early sunrise start, a mid-afternoon departure for sunset, or an evening camp), your dune-bashing intensity (fast or gentle), your activities (add quad biking, a dune buggy, falconry or extra camel time), and your camp preferences (dietary needs, a birthday cake, a private table). Planning a proposal, an anniversary or a corporate team-building day? Tell us in advance and we will help make it special. Just message us your wish-list when booking and we will build the itinerary around it.
Private vs Shared Desert Safari — Which Is Right for You?
Both deliver the classic activities; the difference is exclusivity, flexibility and price.
| Private Safari | Shared Safari | |
|---|---|---|
| Who is in the vehicle | Only your group | You plus other tourists |
| Timing | Flexible, your choice | Fixed group schedule |
| Dune-bashing pace | Tailored (fast or gentle) | Set for the group |
| Best for | Families, couples, groups, occasions | Solo travellers, couples on a budget |
| Price | AED 699 / car (up to 7) | From AED 35–50 / person |
Rule of thumb: if you are a couple on a budget, a shared safari is the cheapest way in. If you are a family or a group of four or more, or you want privacy, flexibility or to mark an occasion, a private car is the better — and often cheaper per head — choice.
Is a Private Desert Safari Worth It?
For families, groups and special occasions, absolutely. The extra you pay over a shared seat buys you control of the whole day: no strangers, a pace that suits your children or older relatives, unlimited photo stops, and a guide focused only on you. At AED 699 for up to 7 people, the per-person cost is modest — frequently less than booking seven shared seats — while the comfort and flexibility are far greater. If your safari is a highlight of your Abu Dhabi trip, or you are travelling with kids, the private option is well worth it. Budget solo travellers and couples happy to share will still love our shared and self-drive options.

Private Desert Safari — Frequently Asked Questions
Dates matter as much as the package — Eid bookings run on a different schedule to the rest of the year.

The Al Khatim Desert — Your Private Playground
Your private safari runs in the Al Khatim desert, a belt of clean, rolling red dunes about 45 minutes from central Abu Dhabi. Because you are private, you are not tied to the busiest routes or the most crowded camps — your guide can take you to quieter dunes, better sunset vantage points and calmer spots for photography. Al Khatim is close enough for an easy trip yet remote enough to feel like your own slice of the Arabian desert. On a private evening you can linger under genuinely dark skies for stargazing after the shows; on a private morning you can chase the first light across empty sand. It is a level of exclusivity that shared tours, packed onto fixed circuits, simply cannot match.
Private Morning vs Private Evening Safari
Both are fully private; they suit different moods. A private morning safari is cooler, quieter and built around the sunrise, camel ride, sandboarding and photography — ideal for families with young children and for photographers who want the golden-hour light with no crowds. A private evening safari adds the full camp: sunset dune bashing, an unlimited BBQ dinner and live tanoura and belly-dance entertainment, all enjoyed at your own pace. Couples often choose the evening for a romantic dinner under the stars; families with early-rising children often prefer the morning. Because both are private, you can even split them across two days for the complete experience.
Private Safari for Photography & Content Creators
If you are a photographer, influencer or content creator, a private safari is the only sensible choice. You control every stop, so you can wait for the perfect light, reposition for the best angle, and fly a drone in the open desert away from restricted zones without a group waiting on you. Golden hour at sunrise or sunset over the Al Khatim dunes, with a camel or your subject in traditional dress, produces genuinely striking images — and with a private vehicle there is nobody else in your frame. Tell your guide your shot-list in advance and they will plan the route and timing around it.
Corporate Safaris & Group Events
Private safaris are perfect for companies, incentive groups and celebrations. We arrange multiple private 4x4s in convoy, tailored timing to fit around your event schedule, and optional activities such as quad biking, dune buggies, falconry and team games at the camp. Whether it is a team-building day, a client entertainment evening, a milestone birthday or a wedding proposal, we can build a bespoke experience with a dedicated point of contact. Catering can accommodate dietary needs and larger numbers — simply share your group size and goals and we will design the day. As a licensed operator we handle the logistics so you can focus on your guests.
Sample Private Itineraries
To make it concrete, here are typical private setups using our pricing:
| Who | Recommended private option | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|
| Couple (romantic evening) | Private car, evening camp | AED 699 / car |
| Family of 4 with kids | Private car, gentle dune bashing | AED 699 / car |
| Group of 7 friends | Private car (~AED 86 each) | AED 699 / car |
| Budget couple wanting privacy | Self-drive (own car) | From AED 70 (2 x 35) |
| Corporate team of 20 | 3 private 4x4s in convoy | On request |
As the table shows, the private car is remarkable value once you have four or more people, and self-drive keeps a private experience within reach even on a tight budget. Message us with your group and we will confirm the best-value private setup instantly.

Abu Dhabi vs Dubai Private Safari
Travellers sometimes compare private safaris between the emirates. Dubai’s private safaris are heavily marketed and often priced from AED 700–1,500 per vehicle once transfers and add-ons are included. Abu Dhabi’s Al Khatim desert is quieter and less commercialised, and booking direct with us keeps the price at AED 699 for up to 7 — with dunes that feel more private because there are fewer crowds. If you are staying in Abu Dhabi there is no reason to pay Dubai prices for a private safari; if you are in Dubai but want the calmer, better-value Abu Dhabi experience, we can arrange pickup.

Safety, Comfort and Peace of Mind on a Private Safari
Privacy also means greater comfort and control over safety. All our vehicles are well-maintained Land Cruisers with seat belts, and every driver is licensed and trained for desert conditions. On a private safari you can set the exact dune-bashing intensity your group is comfortable with — a smooth, gentle drive for young children, pregnant guests or anyone prone to motion sickness, or a more adventurous ride for thrill-seekers. Your guide gives your group their full attention throughout, watching over children and older relatives and adapting the day to everyone’s comfort. There is no pressure to keep up with a larger group and no rushing between activities. For families and mixed-age parties, this personalised care is one of the biggest reasons to choose private over shared.
Why Exclusivity Is Worth It
Travel has changed, and more guests than ever prize experiences that are private, flexible and personal rather than packed and rushed. A private desert safari delivers exactly that: the desert, the dunes and the camp, experienced on your own terms. You are not one of twenty strangers on a fixed timetable — you are the only group, with a guide dedicated to you. That exclusivity turns a good desert trip into a genuinely memorable one, whether you are proposing at sunset, celebrating a child’s first camel ride, or simply enjoying dinner under the stars with the people who matter most. And with our transparent AED 699 pricing, that exclusivity is far more affordable than most travellers expect.
Private Safari with Kids — What Parents Should Know
Parents consistently tell us the private safari is the best choice for young families, and it is easy to see why. You control the pace, so dune bashing can be as gentle as your children need. There is no waiting in queues for the camel ride or sandboard — your children can try each activity as often as they like. If a toddler needs a break, you simply pause; if the kids are loving it, you stay longer. The camp offers space to run, henna and dress-up photos, and food that caters to fussy eaters with advance notice. Car seats and specific timing can be discussed when booking. In short, a private safari removes the stress of a group tour and lets your family enjoy the desert at a child-friendly rhythm.

Even More Private Safari FAQs
Is the AED 699 price for the whole car or per person?
Can a couple book a private safari, or is it only for big groups?
Do you provide a guide who speaks my language?
Can we choose a specific pickup time?
How do I get the best price on a private safari?
How much is a private desert safari in Abu Dhabi?
AED 699 for a private car of up to 7 guests, roughly AED 86 per person for a full group – well below the AED 400 to 1000 plus many operators charge. Self-drive private option is from AED 35 per person.
How many people fit in a private car?
Up to 7 guests in one Land Cruiser. Smaller groups still get the whole vehicle and guide; larger groups can book multiple private vehicles.
Can I use my own car for a private safari?
Yes. Choose the self-drive option from AED 35 per person and bring your own car to our desert meeting point for a private, budget-friendly experience with the full camp.
Is a private safari better for families?
Yes. You control the pace, choose gentle dune bashing for children, and enjoy unlimited activities without sharing or waiting – ideal for families and older guests.
Can I customise the timing and itinerary?
Yes. Private safaris are fully flexible – choose your start time, dune-bashing intensity, activities and camp preferences, including special-occasion touches.
Where can I read about accessibility, babies and motion sickness on a desert safari?
We keep a separate page for each of these, because a one-line reassurance is not enough when the answer decides whether your day works. Read desert safari with a wheelchair for what a foldable chair can and cannot do on sand, desert safari with a baby for car seats and timing, a sensory-friendly desert safari for noise and crowding, and motion sickness on a desert safari if the dune drive worries you. Each one tells you plainly when to skip an element rather than endure it.
What are the facilities actually like in the desert?
Honest detail beats vague reassurance, so we publish it separately. See toilet facilities at the desert camp, phone signal in the desert, the vehicles we use and how many people travel per car. If weather is your concern, sandstorm safety explains what we do when conditions turn. Read those before booking with anyone, not just with us, because they are the questions operators most often leave unanswered.
Planning the Rest of Your Abu Dhabi Trip
Most guests who book the dunes with us also want a day in the capital. These guides cover the practical detail:
- private Abu Dhabi city tour — your own vehicle and driver, so you set the pace at every stop
- a car with driver in Abu Dhabi — hiring a car with a driver by the hour or the day
A private tour can also be run in a Hummer. See the Hummer desert safari Abu Dhabi for the H2 option, up to six guests, from AED 1,499.

If we have to cancel, what happens?
A cancellation policy that covers your obligations but not ours is only half a document. Here is our side of it, in writing.
If we have to cancel your booking — for weather, a vehicle issue, or driver illness — we will contact you as soon as we know and rebook you at no charge on the next date that works for you. You pay nothing for the cancelled booking.
If we need to send a different vehicle than the one you booked, we will ask you first rather than turning up in something you did not book.
This is separate from your own cancellation rights, which are unchanged: you can cancel free up to 12 hours before pickup. Because we take no deposit and no booking fee, there is no money of yours sitting with us either way — nothing to chase, and nothing to wait for.
Your own 4×4, dinner and shows, pay after
